![]() “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or objects.” Albert Einstein Some people mistakenly believe that having certain things will make them happy. Or, they may think that who they’re with or where they live will bring them happiness. While these things may bring joy and make you feel happy for a while, it’s not true happiness. It is fleeting and can easily disappear from your life. To be truly happy is something that comes from inside. It’s not dependent on any external circumstances, as Einstein alludes above. When tying happiness to a goal, we discover something inside us that we didn’t know was there. Working towards a goal requires growth. As we grow, we discover the inner joy and true happiness that is within us. We find happiness in accomplishing what we desire. I believe we are meant to be happy. Sure, life isn’t always easy, but we grow from our challenges. We overcome obstacles and find ourselves being more of who we are meant to be. We weren’t put on this earth to live a life of misery and hardship. Our main purpose here is to be happy. When we are truly happy, we are in control of our thinking. That’s when we don’t let the opinions, doubts, and fears of others take root in our thoughts and influence us in any way. We find a freedom from constraints, from beliefs that hold us back. Much of the time, the beliefs we hold are not our own. They have been passed down to us from parents or grandparents, who were doing the best they knew how given their circumstances. Realize that you are in complete control of the outcomes in your life. No matter where you are now, or what you have been through, life doesn’t have to be a struggle and you can create the life you want by making different choices. Being happy, no matter what, is a choice and is within your complete control. Ralph Marston says, “Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.” Choose wisely for it is your life and your future that depends on it.
